“FREEMASONRY AND THE MILITARY DURING CONFLICT”
A topic researched and discussed by PM Ian Barron.
The paper deals with the activities of Freemasons during times of conflict and begins with an explanation of how prisoners of war came about and how they were treated. It is based on a true story. The idea for the paper came from an article in the Grand Lodge Yearbook and I developed it from there.
It details with who were actually the first to take, and keep, ‘Prisoners of War’.
Much of the paper is concerned with the second world war and tells the story of how brethren managed to come together and practice masonic rituals – even in circumstance of extreme depravity so it should be specially interesting to some of our older brethren.
