2015 Charity Fishing Competition

The Annual Provincial Grand Lodge Charity Fishing Competition 2015 was to have been staged at Carron Valley Reservoir, Denny on Saturday 6^th June 2015.

Unfortunately ‘El Nino’ played a part through the strong winds and torrential rain that prevailed on the day. As can be seen from the first two pictures, Carron Reservoir was rather choppy and the spillway was being regularly topped by the windblown waves.

A prudent decision was made not to launch the boats but to move the Competition to the much smaller Faughlin Reservoir further down the valley where the weather was no kinder but bank fishing could be carried out in safety.

A number of fishermen took one look at the conditions and went home without dipping their line in the water. Over 20 of their number did however persevere and did manage to catch some fish.

The winning team of two was that of Lodge Craiginnan Dollar No 850 (Bro A Galloway and Bro A Stewart) who caught five fish weighing 6lb 6oz and the runners-up were the team from Lodge Ancient Stirling No 30 (Bro G Berry and Bro Robert Muir ) who caught fish weighing 4lb 1 oz. The largest fish was caught by Bro S Robertson from Lodge Ben Cleuch No 782 weighing in at a decent 2lb 5oz (He is the one still trying to catch flies in his mouth in the picture).

Bro Andrew McKinnon RWPGM presented the prizes along with Bro Alex Crocket Past Substitute.

Thanks are due to the team headed by Bro J Coyne from Carron Valley and to Bro Gordon Sewell Substitute who organised the event.

 The proceeds (estimated at around £1,000.00) will be donated to the Charity Homestart Falkirk West once finally evaluated.

As the first Saturday in June 2016 is not available Bro Sewell advises that he has provisionally booked Saturday 11^th June 2016 on the boats on Carron Reservoir for the Competition next year.
