Golf Charity Presentations

As a result of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Stirlingshire Annual Charity Golf Competition held at Schawpark Golf Course, Alloa on Sunday 12^th May 2013 the magnificent sum of £2,500.00 was raised. This sum was presented to the Seagull Trust Falkirk Branch at a small informal ceremony held in their premises on Thursday 1^st August 2013. The picture shows Mr James McKellar, Chairman of Falkirk Branch, receiving a cheque from Bro Andrew A McKinnon RWPGM. They are accompanied by members of Provincial Grand Lodge and officials and supporters from the Seagull Trust, Falkirk Branch.

“The Seagull Trust was founded in 1978 to provide cruises for disabled people of all ages, across Scotland. In 2007, the Trust became known as Seagull Trust Cruises with a goal of extending its work across Scotland, to provide cruises to people with special needs and continue its role in environmental and educational activities.

From its original base in Ratho, near Edinburgh where cruises took place on the Union Canal, activities have extended and now four separate locations are in use, at Ratho, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch and Highland with cruises on the Union, Forth & Clyde and Caledonian canals.

Between the months of April and October these branches centres are open every day of the week in order that they might provide a service for as many people as possible. Seagull Trust Cruises aims to be as accommodating as possible to its users and so cruise durations are based upon the conditions and the wishes of the user groups.

The Seagull Trust Cruises fleet comprises of boats that are purpose built and are crewed by trained volunteers. Please note that Seagull Trust Cruises does not provide transport, therefore it is the responsibility of user groups to travel to the selected branch and to be accompanied by responsible carers, supplying any medical equipment they may require as well as food.

In July 2003 a new residential holiday canal boat was launched. The Marion Seagull was introduced in the Falkirk Branch and allows people with special needs and their families to cruise the lowland waterways at their leisure for a few days up to a week.”
