139 Add to their History

Mrs. Jean Ross had previously contacted Lodge Carron back in September 2017 to donate the regalia and memorabilia of her father PM Simon Macgregor (RWM 1943-44) and her Grandfather PM William Macgregor (RWM 1936-38).

My wife and I went through to her home in Glasgow to collect the items and I was very surprised to see over 110 different items in a box. These included PM Simon Macgregor's PM Jewel, a copy of the Book of the Bazaar and many other rare masonic items. I have catalogued these for the Lodge and they have yet to attain a place in our museum area.

After that I wrote to Mrs. Ross confirming receipt of the items and that they were on long term loan from the family. She replied with a lovely letter and Christmas card.

I then wondered if she would care to visit Lodge Carron and Larbert Old Parish church and to that end I wrote to her again offering a couple of dates.  I was delighted when she accepted

On Sunday 8^th April my wife Janice and I went to collect Mrs. Ross from her home in Glasgow and brought her through to Larbert Old Parish Church. We attended the 11am service where Jean was in the choir for many years, having been brought up in this area in the years before and during the war. She met a few old friends who were attending that day.  Her memory is still very sharp and she recalled many times from her happy days there. 

We then took her for lunch back at our home where she offered me some other masonic items which she had subsequently found.  Lastly we took her to Lodge Carron where she was pictured at the photo of her father. (See below)

We returned to Glasgow and dropped Mrs. Ross at her home and saw her into the flat after what I hope was a good day out for her.

Freemasonry takes a person on many journeys and when I had the pleasure & privilege of meeting such a wonderful woman as Mrs. Jean Ross, with such a strong association to Lodge Carron 139, it made me feel a better person for being in the craft.
