The Provincial Grand Lodge of Stirlingshire |
Past Master James Wright Reid of Lodge St. Andrew
(Denny & Loanhead) No 176 has received a certificate and jewel to mark
his Grand Lodge of Scotland honorary rank of Director of Ceremonies.
The presentation was made by the Right Worshipful
Provincial Grand Master Bro Alistair T Marshall at the regular meeting
of Lodge St Andrew on Thursday 14th February – a very
different Valentine’s Day gift.
Jim, as everyone calls him, was initiated on 12th
March 1970 and was Master of the Lodge in 1986 and 1987. This was,
apparently, a vintage year for Lodge Masters as PGM Bro Alistair
explained later that was on the chair of Zetland No 391 at the same time
as Bro Jim.
When the late John McLeod Sneddon became
Provincial Grand Master in 1995, PM Reid took over the office of
Director of Ceremonies and has held the post ever since.
In presenting the Grand Rank, PGM Bro Marshall
recalled Jim’s working life including time as a manager of the Aberdeen
branch of a laundry business that saw him travel north at the start of
the week and back to his home in Denny at the end of the week. Except
the weeks of Lodge when he travelled down on the Thursday for the Lodge
and back up for work on Friday morning.
That, said the RWPGM, is commitment.
He also praised Jim’s wife Margo whose baking for
various Lodge functions is legendary and always welcomed. Bro Jim has
helped his community in other ways including time as the President of
the Denny Cross Burns Club.
An emotional Jim said: “This is a great honour
that you have bestowed on me.”
PM Jim also took part in the 3rd
degree ceremony, singing the solo and presenting the emblems as well as
the other DoC duties.
