“Mark William Wright G.C. (22nd April 1979 – 6th September 2006) was a soldier in the British Army and a recipient of the George Cross. He died in Helmand Province, Afghanistan after entering a minefield in an attempt to save the lives of other injured soldiers. His actions were posthumously recognised with the award of the George Cross on 14th December 2006, and gazetted the next day. Mark Wright had served in the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The Mark Wright Project was set up in his name and supports our ex-Service men, women and their families in addressing the invisible wounds along with the visible wounds of war, easing ex-Service men and women’s transition into civilian life. More details are included below.

Lodge Dolphin is supporting the Mark Wright Project by holding a special Emergency Mark Degree Meeting at 2.00pm on Saturday 11th June 2016.

The candidate currently serves in HM Forces.

The Degree ceremony will be performed by a team of ex-Service brethren from various parts of Scotland headed by Bro Tom Stott PM Lodge Water of Leith No 1267. His team has carried out a number of such events in various Lodges.

All proceeds received prior to and on the day will be donated to the Mark Wright Project.

The Mark Wright Project actively supports our ex-Service men, women & their families in addressing the invisible wounds along with the visible wounds of war, easing ex-Service men & women’s transition into civilian life.

Our Centre is specifically designed to be first and foremost ‘welcoming and homely’ - creating a very laid-back informal, non-clinical, social and friendly environment where ex-Service personnel and their families can feel comfortable and safe and able to discuss the issues affecting their lives. Additionally, ex-Service personnel and their family members can access a wide range of information, support and advice services, complementary therapies, gym facilities an outdoor activity programme, and mental health therapists and counseling

The Mark Wright Project has three broad aims

To promote and provide participation in healthy sport, recreation, leisure and social activities for ex-service men and women suffering from combat trauma and stress

To promote and provide post-conflict information, advice and support to promote the physical and mental health of men and women living in the UK suffering from combat and/or conflict trauma and stress

To relieve the mental and emotional sickness of persons/families resident in Scotland suffering from bereavement or loss of a son/daughter killed or wounded in military combat.
