Square and Compasses Waving Saltire

Quintinshill Remembered

On the 22nd May 1915 a trainload of troops set off from Larbert Station to serve their country. Alas the train collided with another at Quintinshill Junction north of Gretna. The carnage that followed and the intense fire caused by the collision with a local passenger service train resulted in 226 people losing their lives.

The centenary of the accident was marked by a parade from Larbert Parish Church on the 21st May 2015 to the car park at Larbert Station where a memorial service was held for those who perished. A brief reception was thereafter held at the Dobbie Hall.

A number of the local Masonic Lodges took part in the parade and some even helped to marshal those taking part. The picture below shows some members of Lodge Dolphin No 911 who were proud to attend and assist.
