The Provincial Grand Lodge of Stirlingshire |
Brethren
As some may be aware there was a proposal to lay a wreath by the Province at Stirling Castle to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1 which ended on the 11th November 1918.
Due to logistical issues at Stirling Castle and with the approval of Grand Lodge, I have to advise that the wreath laying will not now take place at Stirling Castle on 22nd September as originally planned. It will now take place at the War Memorial in Cowie on the same day.
Quite apart from the above, the War Memorial at Cowie was designed and erected by our Provincial Grand Junior Warden, Brother Willie Stevenson and is totally appropriate. See below.
his event is part of the Widow's sons, Masonic motor cycle groups tribute to the end of WW1. The group over this year, the 100th. anniversary of the end of WW1 have, in conjunction with Grand Lodge's Poppy Scotland Appeal, been visiting a war memorial in every province in Scotland. We are expecting around 30 members of the group to be at Cowie for the event.
The location is also ideal and, ironically, the Memorial contains the names of 3 Brethren from Lodge Bannockburn Bruce and Thistle No 312 who were killed in the conflict.
After the laying of the wreath, we will then head to Cowie Community Centre for a bit of refreshment.
I would hope to see a fair turnout of Brethren.
As we are in recess at present I would be obliged if you could advise anyone not on Facebook or who does not have access to the web site, particularly our older members or indeed anyone who has served in the forces. Please also note medals to be worn.
he date and time ; Saturday 22nd September 2018 ; 1400 - 1600 hours. We will convene in the car park opposite the Memorial.
If there are any questions, please contact either Provincial Grand Secretary or the RWPGM for clarification.
Please also note that this is not to be confused with the proposed event in the Usher Hall.
For further info about the Memorial see below extracted from BBC Web Site.
